My Life Long Learning Plan

My learning plan would include a blog. My blog would be a book review of the recent list of the Horned Toad Tales. This would be extremely useful to the Language Arts teachers of grades three – five. Initially the Language Arts teachers would meet and agree to participate in an online type of book club. Several of the Horned Toad Tales would be selected for reading and reviewing. Teachers would take into consideration the reading level of the books in reference to their classes and the appropriate content for their students.

The participants would use the blog to review and discuss these books. This could be expanded to include the Bluebonnet and Newbery books at a later date.

An appropriate timeline would include promoting the blog for the remainder of the semester by visiting the planning sessions of the teachers; then initiating it and moving forward after the semester holidays. Chances are that only a few would be reviewed, but it would be a great orientation for when the 2011-2012 HTT are introduced.

The online videos offer an encyclopedia of resources. These videos can teach or explain anything. This is especially useful for bringing history alive through the speeches of characters portrayed as a historical figure. It is useful for streaming short explanations or methods. The search can find a video of just about anything that can be explored.

NING

I feel that I would use NING more often. Even though it is a collaboration tool, I find the social networking aspect very appealing. Personally I don't use Facebook as most of what friends and relatives post is not interesting or thought-provoking. This tool allows for joining a network of interest or many interests. This would benefit me in my career and offer insights of individials with a common theme.

Online productivity tools

Both the Wiki and the Ning are great resources for our profession. I truly am not sure which I would use most. I presume that I would use the Ning since it is a collaborative tool for like interests. I also like the fact that membership can be restricted.

Wikis

I feel that wikis would be a very useful tool as a collaboration source. I noticed several wikis that interested me, such as the booklists, elementary reading, and common practices. I used the wiki to find some orientation ideas for pre K and kingergarten. They were great and I even used them at my school library. I was introduced to wiki by friend, and feel that this tool would be an asset to me in my selection of books.

About the experience of creating a blog

This blog will be useful to me as I begin my career again after a 3 year interlude of travel. I will hope to read from other librarians, various pointers and tips for successful lessons. I would welcome websites for meaningful lessons using technology and of course current book reviews.

Perhaps the greatest challenge of the blog will be keeping up with it as a routine. As a resource, I would hope to share my gained knowledge with my colleagues.

Digial age publishing

I found the blog Book Blog that could help me professionally. One can read books, blog different books, and even write and publish books. I also found that 15 must read blogs for writers would be most helpful if I were to get into blogging.

The one that I found personally helpful was a blog about Kindles, since I am contemplating making the purchase of an ebook reader.
One thing that I found most interesting was that the selection of blogs for different topics is so massive. Though we need to be open to all types of information, I think that it is time-consuming to find the right blog for your purpose. At this time, I feel that blogs would be more appropriate for middle and high schoolers rather than elementary students.
